Cute Kid Comment

Is it sacrilegious to quote someone's prayer word for word on our blog? Hope not, 'cause I'm about to do it!

Jacob has finally started saying his very own prayers at night (he had been requesting our help until just recently.) Last night he told me that he would once again be doing it on his own so we knelt down and he said:

Dear Heavenly Father,
Please bless Lyssie to get baptized again
(he LOVED her baptism)
Please bless Jacob not to be afraid of the Holy Ghost (it's the 'ghost' part.)
Please bless Spider Man to be real.
In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

I think I deserve some sort of Mom Award for not laughing out loud. I just smiled and told him, "Nice prayer, Jacob...good job!"

Alyssa's Baptism

Alyssa got baptized this weekend! It was a great day, complete with family, friends and cookies (always a great combination!)

Special memories of the day will include the very strong Spirit felt, fantastic talks given by grandparents, lots of family involvement and friends who braved snowy conditions to attend. Alyssa has been so excited for this day and really seemed to understand the covenants she was making and the blessings to be received by keeping those covenants. I'm sure it was a day she'll remember all her life.

Many thanks to Nana Barb and Papa Brent who came all the way from Canada and to Nana Jo and Papa Jim who drove over in an ice storm and home in a snow storm!

Here are a few pictures of her special day:

E. Cullen

Today Haley got a small package in the mail with a return address of:

E. Cullen
Forks, WA

Haley laughed when she saw the package and excitedly opened it up to find her very own bootlegged copy of the Twilight movie, complete with a sticky note that read,

"To my biggest fan.
Love, Edward Cullen"

I immediately recognized the handwriting of an extended family member (who will remain nameless in order to avoid prosecution!) When I called him, he assured me that's it's only slightly illegal. He also rationalized that since 8 full-price tickets to Twilight have been purchased by Amber, Haley and I (I've seen it once, Haley's seen it 3 times and Amber has seen it 4 times) he felt we were not cheating the movie in any way by his having "obtained" this copy for us. I decided that's good enough for me! So tonight, after dinner, the girls and I watched Haley's new DVD and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Thanks, ________!

Birthday Girl!

Today is Alyssa's 8th birthday!
In following the lay-out of the other kids' birthday posts...

THE BIG DAY...
Alyssa was born on a snowy, cold January 5th right here in Walla Walla. In addition to being our first Walla Walla baby, her birth was extra special to our family because we'd had a 4 year break in the baby department - by the time Alyssa finally arrived we were so very excited and ready for her! I was induced on Alyssa's due date because my doctor worried she'd be large. Good guess, Doc. She was 9lbs. 9oz and 23 inches long! So...really I probably owe Alyssa because after that delivery my doctor agreed to begin inducing me a week prior to my due dates!

ALYSSA'S SONG...
Each of our kids has a song we've dubbed "their song" and each is an Elton John song. I'm not really sure how this began, but it's become a fun little tradition that the kids really get into. They all know each other's songs and get excited when they hear one. Alyssa's song is 'Tiny Dancer', by Elton John, because when she was a toddler she used to dance all over the living room whenever Brad would play the piano (which was/is often!)

NICKNAME...
"Lyssie", sometimes "Missy Lyssie"

INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT ALYSSA...
Alyssa is an 'old soul'. She's extremely smart and just seems older than her 8 years. She loves to read and cruises through books faster than the library can keep their shelves stocked. She's a great athlete and plays soccer, basketball and softball. Alyssa has a tender heart and an excellent sense of humor (people are always telling us that they think Alyssa is hilarious.) She is our middle child - our Jan Brady, if you will - but I seriously doubt she will ever suffer the stereotypical effects of 'Middle Child Syndrome' because she is such a unique and fascinating person - she stands out no matter where she is. We love Alyssa for many reasons - none the least of which are the joy and laughter she brings into our home, her desire to do what's right, her inquisitive mind and amazing memory and her love of family. Obviously, (to those readers who are LDS) this is a particularly special birthday for Alyssa as she will soon be baptized. She takes this step seriously and thoughtfully and we are very proud of her.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LYSSIE!
