Birthday Girl!

Today is Alyssa's 8th birthday!
In following the lay-out of the other kids' birthday posts...

THE BIG DAY...
Alyssa was born on a snowy, cold January 5th right here in Walla Walla. In addition to being our first Walla Walla baby, her birth was extra special to our family because we'd had a 4 year break in the baby department - by the time Alyssa finally arrived we were so very excited and ready for her! I was induced on Alyssa's due date because my doctor worried she'd be large. Good guess, Doc. She was 9lbs. 9oz and 23 inches long! So...really I probably owe Alyssa because after that delivery my doctor agreed to begin inducing me a week prior to my due dates!

ALYSSA'S SONG...
Each of our kids has a song we've dubbed "their song" and each is an Elton John song. I'm not really sure how this began, but it's become a fun little tradition that the kids really get into. They all know each other's songs and get excited when they hear one. Alyssa's song is 'Tiny Dancer', by Elton John, because when she was a toddler she used to dance all over the living room whenever Brad would play the piano (which was/is often!)

NICKNAME...
"Lyssie", sometimes "Missy Lyssie"

INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT ALYSSA...
Alyssa is an 'old soul'. She's extremely smart and just seems older than her 8 years. She loves to read and cruises through books faster than the library can keep their shelves stocked. She's a great athlete and plays soccer, basketball and softball. Alyssa has a tender heart and an excellent sense of humor (people are always telling us that they think Alyssa is hilarious.) She is our middle child - our Jan Brady, if you will - but I seriously doubt she will ever suffer the stereotypical effects of 'Middle Child Syndrome' because she is such a unique and fascinating person - she stands out no matter where she is. We love Alyssa for many reasons - none the least of which are the joy and laughter she brings into our home, her desire to do what's right, her inquisitive mind and amazing memory and her love of family. Obviously, (to those readers who are LDS) this is a particularly special birthday for Alyssa as she will soon be baptized. She takes this step seriously and thoughtfully and we are very proud of her.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LYSSIE!

Happy birthday, Alyssa! It's great to be 8!! What a special birthday this will be. Enjoy your upcoming baptism and make sure you write down all your thoughts and feelings about your big day. Write your testimony too. That way, when your kids are 8 someday, they'll know how you felt when you were baptized and received the Holy Ghost. Happy birthday!!

Amy, what a fun tradition that all of your kids have their own songs. That's really neat. I love how you record your experiences and thoughts about each of your kids on their birthday. What a great history. You're an awesome mom!
